When installing FEniCS with conda I got a messsage suggesting to update conda, which I stupidly did - never in my life has updating anything helped in any way. After this, all I got was the error
conda info could not be constructed.
KeyError('pkgs_dirs')
Following various advice online, I eventually gave up and decided to reinstall as suggested here. This included deleting all Anaconda folders, restarting, etc. At the end of the installation, it says Installation failure - contact Anaconda. So what am I to do now?
This has got to be the worst update experience I have ever had. Its bad enough that every update is really a downgrade but to break things this badly takes the cake.
Hi @Murray1. Sorry to hear that you’ve had issues with updating the software — that’s definitely not the kind of update process anyone should have to go through. To better understand your situation and to resolve the issue, would you be able to provide answers to the questions below?
- Are you using Anaconda or Miniconda?
- What version of the software did you have installed before running the update?
- Which installer did you download for the fresh install — Anaconda or Miniconda, and which version?
- What operating system are you on, and which version? (Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux distro?)
- Do you happen to remember the steps you followed for the reinstallation? Even a rough outline (e.g., which guide you used, whether you ran an uninstaller or deleted folders manually) would help us narrow things down.
Best regards,
Robin
