Next Anaconda release (2026)

Is there a target date for the next major release version after 2025.12? For teaching in our university we are asked to specify in advance which version we would like installed, but as the new academic year starts at the end of September we would prefer to hold off for a bit if a release is expected in the spring or summer.

Hello @Ben5 ,

We are currently planning a new Anaconda Distribution release to happen in Q2 of 2026.

Any update on this @Tyler_F_Anaconda as we approach the end of Q2?

Hi @Ben5

An updated Anaconda distribution release is definitely still coming. As of right now it realistically looks like it will be shifting out into July.

Thanks, that’s good to know. Is there any information about what changes will be included, so we can decide whether it is worth waiting for the new release for our teaching?

We will be updating packages to the latest compatible versions.
There will be some additions that enable better integrations into some of the Anaconda product launches mentioned in our May launch week - The Anaconda Platform Just Got a Big Upgrade. Here's What's New. | Anaconda
We will be removing scrapy and pycurl from the list of packages automatically bundled in the installer.

Curious if you have tried Anaconda Desktop? And if that might be a good fit for you class in the future? Id be happy to coordinate a feedback session to the team working on this. This is a more flexible way to get started with Anaconda easily.

Thanks again. My own course is an introduction to computing for physics students, and we really want to keep things simple with just the Jupyter Notebook (maybe Jupyter Lab) and keep away from AI as much as possible. We appreciate having Anaconda as a product that lets students easily install the same environment on their own devices regardless of OS, but don’t want all the bells and whistles that would be useful for students or developers wanting a full data science stack.

We’re always thinking about what and how to teach our students throughout their degree though, and I’ll have a look at Anaconda Desktop when time allows.
